What is a pie chart?

Pie Chart can be defined as a circular chart with multiple divisions in it, and each division represents some portion of a total circle or total value. Simply each circle represents the total value of 100 percent, and each division contributes some per cent to the total. It is named as Pie chart as it resembles the pie which has been sliced.

What are the types of pie charts?

  1. 2D Pie chart
  2. 3D Pie chart
  3. Pie of a pie chart
  4. Bar of a pie chart
  5. Doughnut chart
  • What is a 2 D pie chart?

A 2D pie chart shows the size of items that make up a data series proportional to the total of the items in the series. A pie chart always shows a single data series, and is useful for determining which item or items in the series is (are) most significant.

Pie charts work best when: You have only one data series.

Example:

Age group Percentage
16 to 20 years 27.76%
21 to 25 years 58.46%
26 to 30 years 9.25%
31 to 35 years 2.17%
36 to 40 years 1.77%
Above 40 years 0.59%
  •  What is a 3D pie chart?

A 3D pie chart, or perspective pie chart, is used to give the chart a 3D look. Often used for aesthetic reasons, the third dimension does not improve the reading of the data. On the contrary, these plots are difficult to interpret because of the no impression that is associated with the third dimension.
